White oak wine display

We were recently asked to build a custom wine bottle display for a client who wanted something that would tie in with their existing floors. They wanted the wood to be similar in color, metal pegs to hold the bottles, and one large display that would really stand out.

After talking through the design and installation, we decided on a herringbone pattern using white oak. The original idea was to make the entire display one large piece. Once we took into account the size of the display, along with the glass wall and door, we realized that just wasn’t going to work for installation.

Instead, we redesigned it into four separate sections. Each section holds 15 wine bottles, giving the entire display room for 60 bottles. Breaking it into four pieces allowed us to get the look and scale the client wanted without creating a piece that would be nearly impossible to get into place.

For the finish, we used Minwax Special Walnut diluted 50% to give the white oak a warm, natural color that worked well with the client’s existing flooring. We then finished everything with a clear semi-gloss coat for durability and a clean finished look.

The finished display turned out to be a pretty unique piece. The combination of the white oak, herringbone pattern, and metal bottle pegs gives it a great mix of function and style without taking away from the room.
